Fall 2023 Q and A with President Hernandez
By Dawson Beard, Skyline Reporter
President Carlos Hernandez discussed his plans for the upcoming school year with Skyline reporter Dawson Beard. Hernandez did not report any big changes, but he did express his excitement and support for the incoming freshmen.
Q: What are your first impressions of the incoming SRSU students? Is enrollment up from what it was this time last fall?
A: We have great students at Sul Ross, and we anticipate that our entering class will be no different! I’m excited about them, FOR them, and looking forward to their success as Lobos. Enrollment is showing a positive trend. We’re never going to be satisfied, and we have to keep working at it every day, but we’re headed in the right direction.
Q: What are your main goals for the upcoming school year?
A: My main goal remains the same: I want our students to have an incomparable experience from day one. From the day they apply at any of our campuses, we’re here to serve them every step of the way. I want them to know that they can count on us and that we’re rooting for their success.
Q: Do you plan on making any big changes? Have changes already been made leading into the year?
A: We aren’t looking to make any big changes; we’re building on our successes and furthering our mission of excellence.
Q: Are there any major problems on campus you are planning to address in the coming months?
A: None at this time.
Q: As the president of the university, what is your top priority, or top priorities, for Sul Ross this school year?
A: Our top priority is student success. From the Big Bend region to the Middle Rio Grande region, we’re looking forward to a lot of success in the coming year. It’s a great time to be a Lobo!
