New Virtual Healthcare Provider for Sul Ross Students

By Gisselle Rueda, Skyline Reporter

ALPINE - Ops Med Group, a virtual healthcare provider, has partnered with Sul Ross State University to offer students quick and affordable healthcare.

Telehealth is an efficient and affordable way to receive information about certain health concerns via electronic device. Registration is free on their website, ops.medgrp.com/telemed, and can be done at any time; no appointment is needed to complete registration. Danielle Bell, the health services coordinator at SRSU, said that it’s similar to setting up an appointment with a primary healthcare service.

“It will work the same as PHCS except you can be seen ASAP via smartphone or computer in the privacy of your own dorm,” Bell said.

General consultations are completely covered for SRSU students, which lessens students’ financial stress.

Services covered by Ops Med Group include:

  • Office Visits/General Consultations

  • Pregnancy testing

  • Pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease counseling

  • Family planning counseling

  • Urinalysis

  • Diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infection

  • Diagnosis and treatment of vaginitis

  • Management of viral and bacterial infections, gastroenteritis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, skin infections, dermatitis, and urticaria

  • Strep throat screening

  • Referral for lab work

  • TB skin testing

  • Finger Stick Blood Glucose, Hematocrit, and other quick clinical tests

  • Assessment of injuries, and referrals for x-rays and any serious injuries

  • Follow-up care for visit

  • Blood, urine, sputum, stool collections, and wound swab

Students are responsible for the cost of any medications or antibiotics used to treat a disease and for referral services, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.

Ops Med Group will be available on campus throughout the semester but students can also visit the nurse’s office with any health concerns they may have. Once health concerns have been shared with Ops Med Group, it is possible to receive prescriptions and can be sent to the students’ pharmacy of choice. Bell has also offered to help students with any concerns or questions that they may have regarding Ops Med Group.
