Presidential Powers in Play

ALPINE, TX – Less than a month into his term, President Trump entered office with fists swinging.

Of the 22 executive orders, the most of any president in history, almost one-third were related to immigration conflict . The order that caused the most controversy was the Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship order in which President Trump claims the 14th amendment to the US Constitution does not grant so-called birthright citizenship to those born on American soil.

As of the publication of this story, numerous federal judges have blocked Trump’s claim, saying it clearly violates the Constitution.

With the slew of executive orders by President Trump the Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun detaining and deporting undocumented migrants.

There have been reports of ICE agents waiting outside of stores and knocking on doors asking for ID. The U.S. military has also been dispatched to the southern border to assist in deterring illegal crossings.

This action is only one of several controversial executive orders Trump is attempting to ram through the government, including mass layoffs, appointing himself head of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, shuttering the US Agency for International Development, and firing 1,000 US Park Service employees.

Equally controversial is the creation of his Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk with a murky mission to find waste, fraud and abuse.
