Sul Ross Plans to Boost Housing and Meal Plan Prices

By Viviana Sanchez, Skyline Reporter

ALPINE- Sul Ross is raising the cost to students for housing and food , meaning students will face higher living costs, but they may benefit from improved housing and dining.

Effective Fall 2025, residence hall rates will increase by 6% and meal plan rates will increase by 3.6%. Housing rates were last increased in Fall of 2024 by 6%.

Sul Ross says the housing rate increase will help fund renovations at Fletcher Hall and support repairs and maintenance in Lobo Villages.

According to Dean of Students, Suzanne Harris, Fletcher Hall is expected to be completed in time for athletes to move in by August 2025. Fletcher Hall will continue to be the the most affordable option but will still see a 36% increase from $117 to $175 for the Spring and Fall semesters.

Harris said Fletcher Hall renovations include updates to its bathrooms and bedrooms, which will remain shared, as well as improvements to the large downstairs common area. The improved common area could potentially include pool tables, ping pong tables, and televisions for student activities.

Twelve rooms in Lobo Village 2 have continued to be renovated since the beginning of the Fall semester due to water damage caused by a leak. The renovations vary from laminated flooring to newly installed cabinets and countertops.

The renovations to Lobo Village had been set back due to a delay with the furniture vendors. Renovations and upgrades to other rooms in the Lobo Villages remain uncertain.

Sul Ross said that the meal plan increase is driven by the Consumer Price Index agreement with ARAMARK, following the last increase of 4.6% from Fall 2024.

There have been small changes in dining services with differences in station and addition to new foods.

With the Texas Legislature freezing tuition for the next two years, students may see price increases in other areas.
