ALPINE – Sul Ross State University President Carlos Hernandez announced Monday that an official motion has been submitted to the Board of Regents to change the name of Sul Ross State University to “Sul Ross State University International” beginning on Jan. 1, 2025.
The motion will be considered by the Board at their meeting later this week. If approved, the University will begin the “SRSU International” rebrand, complete with new signage and artifacts. The name change would apply to the Eagle Pass, Uvalde, and Del Rio campuses of SRSU.
“This will be a tedious process and will require patience from all of us as we execute this in the most efficient and cost-effective manner,” President Hernandez said. “This is an exciting time, and a celebration of our work as we progress toward an independent four-year university for the Middle Rio Grande Region.”
The significance of the name change was highlighted in the motion stating, “The proposed name change is a crucial interim step as we continue to expand programs and capacity in a manner that is consistent with a university. It elevates the institution from college to university, a significant distinction, and recognizes its geographic bi-national community status while embracing its Sul Ross roots.”
