New Mental Healthcare Provider Offered to SRSU Students

ALPINE – Sul Ross State University has partnered with Timely Care, a virtual mental healthcare provider, to offer SRSU students 24/7 access to counseling services at no cost.
SRSU students are eligible to receive nine free counseling sessions with Timely Care. Each session following the ninth costs $79.
All of the universities within the Texas State University System have partnered with Timely Care and began offering virtual counseling through the platform in June. This decision was made after conversations of partnering with an outside service started in March of 2022 among the Texas State University System Counseling Directors.
Some of the benefits of Timely Care include 24/7 care, reduced wait times, a diverse provider network, and a secure HIPAA compliant platform, according to Ben Telesca, SRSU’s vice president for student affairs.
Considering the fact that there are currently only two counselors employed by Sul Ross, Timely Care and its large selection of licensed counselors and providers will give students more options to choose from when seeking counseling services.
Mary Schwartze, the director of counseling and accessibility services, stressed the importance of building a connection with your counselor and said that having more options will be beneficial to students.
Schwartze said that the launch of Timely Care has not lessened the workload of the Counseling and Accessibility office. As of September 17, four SRSU students had received counseling through Timely Care.
Services provided by Timely Care include:
On-demand mental health and emotional support
Mental health counseling sessions
Health coaching
Care navigation
Basic needs assistance
Peer support community
Digital self-care content
Students can access Timely Care from any device including cellphones. Download the Timely Care app or go to https://timelycare.com/srsu/ to book a counseling session.
